David McCann

Managing Director - Solicitor

David has over 30 years’ experience of dealing with dispute resolution. He was previously Head of Commercial Litigation and then a Senior Partner at a large multi-office north-west law firm. He then decided to set up his own practice (Hanover Law) in 2018 which has since grown and is now a successful law firm with some of the region’s top property lawyers.

The focus of Hanover Law is in dealing with all elements of real estate investment, asset management and development work.  David’s expertise in dispute resolution enables the firm to handle a full suite of contentious and non-contentious property work. David’s specialises in complex contractual and property litigation matters. David has acted in a number of reported cases covering:–

  • lease renewals under the Telecommunications Code;
  • costs litigation;
  • professional negligence; and
  • intellectual property.

David is our Managing Director and owner of the business; he is also the firm’s Compliance Officer and is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the business.

Mark Balmforth

Legal Director – Solicitor

As head of the asset management team at Hanover Law, Mark co-ordinates all investment, disposal and asset management work undertaken by the Hanover Law team. This includes overseeing work across the office, retail and development sectors and managing client relationships with institutional investors, ultra-high net worth individuals and local authorities.

Prior to joining Hanover Law, Mark worked at a top 20 law firm in the investment and asset management team.

Mark’s recent experience includes:-

  • managing a complicated title re-structure and 999-year pre-let of circa 60,000 sq ft to a higher education body, transforming a regional town centre;
  • managing all landlord and tenant work at the prestigious Brindleyplace estate in Birmingham and the King’s Hill estate in Kent, on behalf of overseas investors;
  • acting on the disposal of numerous development plots at The Airfields (part of the Northern Gateway area at Deeside, North Wales); and
  • handling the sales of numerous shopping centres and multi-let office buildings across the country.

Shauna Thompson

Senior Solicitor Advocate

Shauna is a senior solicitor at Hanover Law and primarily handles retail landlord and tenant matters for institutional investors and local authorities.

Prior to joining Hanover Law in 2020, Shauna worked at a boutique commercial law firm in Manchester handling acquisitions and disposals for property developers as well as broader landlord and tenant matters. Shauna also obtained Higher Rights of Audience before joining Hanover Law.

In addition to a wide range of landlord and tenant work, Shauna regularly acts on:-

  • auction and private treaty sales;
  • Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 proceedings; and
  • breach of covenant and dilapidations matters.

Kulzinder Garcha

Senior Solicitor

Kulzinder is a Senior Solicitor at Hanover Law and has over 18 years of experience in all aspects of transactional property matters, from residential development work to commercial acquisitions and sales.

Kulzinder now focuses on commercial lettings across retail and office portfolios, as well as complex acquisitions and disposals, including acting on behalf of receivers in distressed asset disposals to property developers.

Her recent transactions at Hanover Law have included:-

  • private treaty sales of multi-let office buildings;
  • complex conditional agreements for lease with blue-chip tenants across a South-West portfolio owned by HNW investor clients; and
  • auction sales of shopping centre assets.

Doug Henderson

Assistant Solicitor

Prior to joining Hanover Law in 2026, Doug worked in the commercial property team of one of the North West’s leading commercial firms. He now acts for landlords and investors across the retail and business space sectors, assisting the wider Hanover Law team as well as handling his own busy case load.

His recent experience includes:

  • acting on behalf of the owners of various retail parks across England and Wales;
  • assisting on the disposal of a £5m retail park in Cheshire;
  • acting on behalf of a developer for the acquisition of various sites around Greater Manchester subject to planning; and
  • numerous disposals of freehold properties subject to occupational tenancies at auction.

Danielle Boylan

Office Manager

Danielle is the Office Manager at Hanover Law. Her extensive experience enables her to proactively manage the day-to-day operations of the Manchester office while providing support to all members of the team. With a strong eye for detail and an organised, proactive approach, she helps ensure the office operates efficiently and effectively.

Danielle is the first point of contact for the firm and works closely with senior members of the management team.
